Gunning (population 500) is for chic, for history, great coffee, farmers markets and interesting shops. For lunch, check out the Hume cafe and the Merino cafe. September showcases the Gunning Fireworks festival.

With an altitude of 550 metres the air is clear and clean and the area enjoys an average 27 inch rainfall. Gunning is well-located just 2 minutes off the Hume highway. It's only 30 minutes to Crookwell or Goulburn and one hour to Canberra or 2.5 hours to Sydney Harbour

Gunning produces some of the finest sheep and wool in NSW.

The Gunning Picture House Gallery & Bookshop was originally the 1930's "Coronation Theatre."  (circa 1937).

Accommodation is at Frankfield Guest House (built 1870) or the Telegraph hotel. Also stay by the water at the well-appointed camping Park, just near the shops.

Gunning was bushranger country and the Whitton Gang roamed the countryside and actually laid siege to Gunning.

Historic buildings include the Post Office (1880), Pye Cottage (1860), the Court House (1879), the Telegraph Hotel
(1880's) and the 1850's Caxton House. On the corner of Wombat Street is the town's oldest building, the Police Barracks (now a private home) built around 1842.
